Description

In 2007, Cynthia traveled the width and breadth of India and these photos capture the variety in landscape by the sacred Ganges river at Haridwar; sacred Agra where the Taj Mahal stands along with great poverty; going into the Himalyas on a toy train to Darjeeling in the NW corner of India; into Rajasthan state where the great muslim moguls once ruled and now stand breathtaking palaces and forts in cities like Jodphur, Jaipur and the desert fort of Jaisalmer; the largest city of all, Bombay, showed its laundry all in once place in the open and Cochin, once Portuguese, down in the southeast, is known for spices, its own river and a largely deserted section where many Jewish people once lived.  A land of contrasts in all ways.

Cynthia Clark is a retired Boston lawyer who has photographed diverse aspects of the many countries. Laundry is one constant theme in her work, where she looks always to get off the beaten track and below the tourist surface.  Laundry is a look into a culture on many levels and never fails to present great images just waiting to be captured.
